From Charlie's point of view, life, marriage, work, family, faith, feasting.

A re-start of sorts

An Addition.

There has been a joyous addition to our family – our son who was born last year, just in to welcome spring. An addition that has pointed us heavenward for strength for each hour, he has stretched our capacity for patience, selflessness and self-discipline in ways that were much needed. A subject of many prayers whispered in the muted hours between dusk and dawn – as I drift in and out of dreams.

Abode

We have moved house (flat!) and now call this ground-floor bright maisonette our home. Very thankful for the skylights that amplify the pitter-patter of winter drizzle (or downpour), bringing joy in an otherwise gloomy day.

Ambition

I have set myself the incredulous goal of reading 70 books in 2026. Rather than be like Eustace Scrubb and read only books with facts and figures, I have deliberately chosen some novels to balance out my literary palate and to explore new genres. I am currently enjoying A Gentleman in Moscow, a delightful book which I often regret reading before bed as the descriptions of cuisine leave me pining for a biscuit, or a rosemary-garlic-crusted rack of lamb at 10.07pm. (I have gone for all A’s as a form of mimicry – admiration – of Towles)

Assessments

I have officially finished all of my accountancy exams (got my final results a mere 4 weeks before our son was born). I am super grateful about how timings worked out. I hope this will mean more opportunities for work and service in the future.

Art…

…doesn’t just happen, it takes disciplined practice to make something seem carefree and spontaneous. That’s why I am dedicating naptimes to train up my writing voice, so to speak. I don’t really expect anyone to read this, nor do I aspire to internet fame… just combing through my brain and seeing what falls out.

Anticipate…

…weekly essays / throwaway thoughts / bible studies / thoughts on biblical characters (especially the small people) / how life smells at the moment
